Today in Chime History… Edenfest!

Today in the Chime archives weāre heading back 25 years – to Edenfest! The 3-day festival in Ontario, Canada was quite infamous for headliners who went absent when not paid, FBI investigations, and over 20,000 trespassers. A staple of ā90s festival acts included Bush, The Core, Live, Porno For Pyros, Ani DiFranco, Spin Doctors, Goo Goo Dolls, and Tragically Hip.
Chime founder Jon Luini’s previous company, MediaCast, teamed up with Mania Communications and RockWeb, producing the first major music festival netcast coverage ever. The website was jam-packed with show reviews, photos and videos, a map of the fest, online chats, and everything in between!

While the festival itself was described as a disaster, the site and streaming of the event were cutting edge for the time and set the standard for years to come. Fans have posted saying things such as, ālike many others who went – I remember it as an epic time, not a failureā and āyou know, itās funny ā I constantly hear of that weekend being āa disasterā (and I get why if you look at it from an organiserās perspective) but for those of us who attended, it was a massively good time, and nowhere near a disaster from our point of view.ā
