The Origin of the Tweetcast (or Twittercast)

Things have certainly changed in the Twitter (or should we say X?) world since April 2009 when Chime’s Jon Luini put out the first “Tweetcast” of a live show.

Just over 14 years ago, Moonalice took the stage at Slim’s in San Francisco, but fans from across the globe followed along with the entire show from sound check to the final notes. Longtime and new fans alike connected with the music and each other as each song in the set was converted to MP3s in realtime and tweeted out as a free download.

We love a good throwback and shortly after a series of these Tweetcasts (or Twittercasts), we moved on to video livestreaming every show (over 1,300 to date), but that’s a story for another time. It’s been a blast collaborating with Roger Mcnamee and Moonalice to push the barriers and explore ways to revolutionize how music is experienced and shared.
